The Many Shades of a Soulmate

You will fall in love several times in your lifetime. Each soul connection will be an experience and lesson that you can carry into the next chapter of your life.

With the following guide, you’ll be able to identify what kind of bond you may have or be creating and decide if it’s the soul connection you wish to pursue or let go of.

No one relationship is the same. You may have noticed different relationships bringing out different sides of you--some good, some not so good. Equally, there is a spectrum of soul connections each of us is able to have with another.

While someone may seem like a soulmate, there could be other karmic ties you have with them spiritually that have caused you to manifest a relationship with them.

There are at least eight types of soulmates that you may have. Here’s how to identify the varying connections you are likely to have and how each can help you evolve and even direct you toward your one, true soulmate.

Karmic Ties

This is the kind of love that enters your life like a wrecking ball. But what’s even worse than the Miley Cyrus song is the damage karmic love can have on how you perceive relationships. What starts off as passionate and romantic can quickly turn into a series of toxic breakups.

The feeling is more like that of an addiction than that of wholesome, true love. Karmic relationships bring about the biggest lessons and can be used to teach you about creating and honoring boundaries, and will force you to love yourself in ways your karmic partner was unable to.

Soul Crossings

Like a shooting star, a soul crossing is a glimpse of heaven that you were never meant to hold onto. Marvel at the purity of this connection, enjoy its blessings and lessons and let go with grace.

This relationship is likely to help you heal from a painful past love but is not meant to be with you in all of your chapters.

Twin Flames

According to the Twin Flame theory, your soul was split in two and these two parts reunite as one is felt with palpable passion. The magnitude of the spiritual connection with your twin flame makes it notably different from other connections. Some maintain that the twin flame is the everlasting love to be pursued.

But with a fire that burns as hot as it does with a twin flame, you’re likely to get burnt a few times. Twin flames help you get in touch with your spiritual path and the ending of this relationship often leads to a dark night of the soul. But like a phoenix, you’ll rise from lost love's ashes.

Companion (SoulFriends)

What starts off as a lifelong friendship turns one day. And suddenly when they touch you things feel different. You can’t stop staring at them and you can’t quite pinpoint what’s changed. But something has. Friends that fall in love experience one of the most fun and light-hearted relationships.

This is the person you can be completely yourself with. However, that spiritual depth and romantic drive may not be as deep as the other soul connections. A soul friendship can usually revert back to a platonic friendship as long as both are healed from how the love relationship ends.

Kindred Spirit

A kindred spirit can be your soulmate but not always. They tend to align with your values, spiritual beliefs, and pursue self-awareness to the same degree as you. You tend to authentically agree with each other making the connection effortless and light. A kindred spirit may have had similar experiences as you.

You’re likely to bond over having similar troubles. It can be hard for kindred spirits to help each other grow as they are more likely to enable and create a safe space that isn’t conducive to change but still mighty cozy.

Soul Contracts

Soul contracts are believed to be agreements you made before coming into this world. This soul promise was to unite with another soul to do some major healing.

Even more conflicting than karmic partners, a love relationship with a soul contract can feel (temporarily) devastating. But it’s meant to teach you and the other spiritual lessons you wouldn’t have otherwise learned.

Soul Teachers

A healer, tutor, or a light in our darkest hours can appear and make us fall completely in love. The divine timing makes this soul connection undeniably restorative and healing. These sacred relationships are often very fruitful.

Usually, led by one partner, there is a level of imbalance that manifests in the Soul Teacher relationship. It feels a lot like the right person at the wrong time, but soul teachers are precisely meant to come when you need them most and go when you’ve outgrown their stay.

Past-Life Love

The past-life love feels like you’ve met before. It feels more like a reunion than a first meeting. A past-life love is most like the movies. Ultra-romantic and special these can even be lifelong connections. And should something go array, these connections can be the hardest to sever.

Soulmate (The One)

While there are many shades of soulmates, the one puts in the energy and commitment to building a life and love that is equally fulfilling for you both. Your soulmate, the one covered in this report, doesn’t bring with them the toxicity that can be found in other soul connections. You cross paths because you both are aligned with your soul purpose--making the union effortless and abundant in love and understanding.

Relationships are reflections. Each one will mirror where you are in life. It will show you what you will tolerate, what you will change, and the capacity in which you have to love. Good or bad, every connection you make will contribute to how you find and hold onto your soulmate.
